An experiment was conducted in 2006 at the Agricultural Research Station in Esfahan, Iran, to study the effects of heat stress during flowering on the yield and yield components of rape under delayed cropping. The main plot treatments consisted of 2 planting dates (27 September and 11 November, which was the normal and delayed cropping dates, respectively), whereas the subplot treatments consisted of B. napus cultivars (Option 500, Hyola 330, Hyola 401, Sargol and RGS 003 were spring types, and Modena, SLM 046, Opera and Zarfam were the winter types), B. rapa [B. campestris] cultivars (Echo and Park Land) and one B. juncea cultivar (Land Race). The delay in cropping significantly increased MR (main raceme yield as a proportion of total yield) and 1000-seed weight, but reduced SR (success ratio; number of pods produced per flower produced), SF (main raceme seed yield per flower), number of seeds per pod on the main raceme, and seed yield. The cultivar had a more significant effect on MR, SR, SF, number of seeds per pod, weight per 1000 seeds, and seed yield. The values of the agronomic traits were highest for SLM 046, Zarfam and RGS 003. The lowest values of MR and SR were recorded for H-401, Echo, Park Land and Land Race. The lowest SF, number of seeds per pod, weight per 1000 seeds and seed yield were registered for Echo and Park Land. The effects of cropping date and cultivar were most significant on MR, 1000-seed weight and seed yield. The most suitable cultivars for delayed cropping were SLM 046 and RGS 003, which had high values of MR, SR, SF, 1000-seed weight, number of seeds per pod, and number of flowers and pods per plant.
