The morphological and morpho-physiological traits of 567 bread wheat genotypes under drought and non-drought stress conditions were studied in Iran. Factor analysis based on principal component analysis and varimax rotation indicated that 4 important factors accounted for approximately 89.6 and 87.5% of the total variation under drought and non-drought stress conditions, respectively. Under drought stress, the first factor, which accounted for 42.8% of the total variation between traits, was significantly related to spike yield and yield components. Therefore, this factor was regarded as spike seed yield factor. The other 3 factors under drought stress, which accounted for 20, 17 and 10% of the variation between traits, were identified as plant seed yield, spike density and assimilate transmission factors, respectively. Under non-drought stress conditions, the first factor, which accounted for 35% of the total variation between traits, was significantly related with plant and spike seed yield, plant and spike harvest indexes, number of seeds per spike and plant height. This factor was regarded as plant seed yield factor. The other factors under non-drought stress condition, which accounted for 25.5, 16.6 and 11.0% of the variation between traits, were determined to be production, assimilate transmission and spike density factors, respectively.
