Line x tester analysis for combining ability and heterosis study was attempted in 36 cotton hybrids (Gossypium hirsutum, L) developed by using nine CGMS based lines and four restorers. They were evaluated for fertility restoration, seed cotton yield and yield components. Out of 36 hybrids, 11 werefound to exhibit high degree offertility. Among these eight hybrids were heterotic over the standard check hybrid (PKVHy-4). They had also positive and significant SCA effectfor seed cotton yield. The lines,RHC-CMS 1, RHC-CMS 2, RHC-CMS 9, RHC-CMS 10, and testers RHCr-054 and RHCr-058 werefound to be good or average combiners with high perse performance for seed cotton yield and its components. Additive gene action was predominantfor the characters, days toflowering and number of sympodia, whereas for number of monopodia, number of bolls/plant, boll weight, ginning (%) and seed cotton yield, non additive gene action was predominant.
