An experiment on Effect of growth regulators on germination, vigour and yield of cotton (Gossypium Spp.) was conducted in laboratory as well as infield condition at experimental farm of Deptt. of Agril. Botany, PGI, Dr, PDKV, Akola (MS) during the kharif season of 2007-08 in FRBD with four main factor (Seed lots) and six sub-factor with different chemical preconditioned seed treatments, i.e. GA_3 (100 ppm), AA (lOOppm), NaCl (lOOmM), KNO_3 (lOmM), Thiram (2.5g/kg) and untreated control Results revealed that, the seed lot L_3 (AKH-8828) preconditioned with KNO_3 (lOmM) recorded statistically more germination percentage (72.88%), less abnormal seedlings (3.12Nos.), more radicle length (17.54cm), plumule length (14.39cm), seedling dry weight (40.02mg)and also more seed vigour index (2327.7) with cumulative effect on increased seed cotton yield (124.84g/plant) over untreated control (109.79g/plant).Therefore, considering these beneficial effects of pre-sowing seed treatments on seed quality parameters which help in maintains of desired plant population and to obtain expected yield level the present investigation was conducted to study effect of growth regulators on germination and vigour of preconditioned seed lots of cotton.
