Combining ability analysis was carried out using 10 x 10 diallel crosses in Gossypium herbaceum. Forty five crosses and their ten parents were studied in randomized complete block design with three replications at two locations under rainfed conditions. Observations were recorded for eleven characters on five randomly chosen plants from every plot and their mean were used for studying combining ability. Analysis of variance for combining ability indicated significant mean sum of square for both general combining ability as well as specific combining ability. Parents Gvhv 249, Gvhv 235, V 797 and W8 were found to be good combiners for seed yield per plant. They had favourable genes for number of bolls per plant, boll weight and number of seeds per boll. Gvhv 404, Gvhv 249, Gvhv 352 and V 797 parents had significantly positive general combining ability effects for mean fibre length. Crosses Gvhv 235 X Gvhv 473, Gvhv 249 x Gvhv 473, Gvhv 235 X Gvhv 404 and Gvhv 133 x Gvhv 235 recorded significant positive sea effects for both seed cotton yield as well as lint yield per plant.k.
