India is the seat of cultivating all the four species of cotton and today has emerged as the second largest producer of cotton next to China. The cotton production in 2009-10 stands at 5.1 million tonnes. The cottonseed production is about 90 lakh tonnes contributing to about 11 lakh tonnes to the total oil pool The importance of refined oil has been understood only very recently and popularisation is still necessary to push in human diet in our country despite its wide adaptability in U.SA. and other countries.
