An exploratory study was carried out for the first time at CIRCOT, Mumbai using seeds of 30 Bt-hybrid cotton genotypes drawn from various sources representing commercially cultivated in all the regions of the country and also two transgenic versions of JK Event and Monsanto event and a single BG-II genotype for yield of seed and lint as well as oil and protein per cent in commercial crop Fl and the corresponding F2 generation The evaluations were done on oil, protein and fatty acid profile at the CIRCOTlaboratory adopting standard procedures for estimation. Interesting and valuable information has been obtainedfrom the study for the first time using Bt-cotton hybrids (H xH) of wide array of Indian genotypes with two variations of Cry genes andfurther detailed studies may provide clues for the precise variations in these parameters and also help in planning cdtton improvement for both lint and seed parameters in the future. The results of the study havebeert presented and various aspects emerging from the study have been discussed and suggestions givenforfuture lines of work for further scientific research and breeding and also for adoption of rapid sample based evaluation in cotton seed utilization markets for extraction of edible oil and proteinand their enhanced usage for food, feed and nutritional security. Cotton seed testing for oil and protein by the trade on market-yard arrivals may also enhance the market potential of cotton seeds.
