Efficacy of Copper Hydroxide Against Bacterial Blight Disease of Cotton Incited by Xanthomonas Axonopodis pv. Maivacearum

A field trial was conducted in RI3D at Main Cotton Research Station, Navsari Agricultural University, Suratfor two consecutive seasons i.e. kharif2007-08 and 2008-09 to evaluate the efficacy of three doses with three foliar sprays of copper hydroxidealong with recommended chemical measures i.e. streptocycline + copper oxychloride against bacterial blight disease of cotton. The pooled results revealed that all the chemical treatments were significantly superior over untreated control in reducing thedisease intensity. lowest (9.38%) disease intensity was recorded in streptocycline 100 ppm + copper oxychloride 0.3% treatment and its efficacy was on par with higher dose (0.3%/1500 g/ha) of copper hydroxide treatment and both the treatments were statistically superior over lower doses i.e. 0.2%/1000 g/ha and 0.25%)/1250 g/ha of copper hydroxide. The yield results were not significant but were numerically in commensurate with the efficacy of the treatments. Recommended treatment of streptocycline + copper oxychloride gave maximum yield of seed cotton (1821 kg/ha) followed by higher dose of copper hydroxide (1731 kg/ha). Thus, copper hydroxide could be used as an alternative chemical measure in the management of bacterial blight disease of cotton.
