Propane is one major US LPG product set to see exports soar as the country's shale boom continues to expand its domestic production levels, which have risen from 500K b/d in 2007 to 630K b/d in 2011, to a high of 739K b/d in Oct. 2012. Although much of this new production has remained trapped in the domestic market due to a lack of transportation, and particularly pipeline, capacity, the completion of terminal expansions along the US Gulf Coast is expected to double exports through end-2013, to match levels posted by third-largest global propane exporter Saudi Arabia. Major terminal expansion projects are taking place at Texas's Enterprise terminal, where exports will increase from 6 Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGC) in Jan. to 8 VGLC in Feb., 9 VGLC in March, and 10 VGLC/month by year's end; and at the state's Targa terminal, which will add 4 VLGCs from Oct. levels. The majority of US propane exports are bound for Brazil, Mexico, and South America, with a few shipments transported to Europe's ARA Netherlands-Belgium hub.
