A neutral mononuclear Fe(II) complex with spin crossover (SCO) properties, FeL2(SCN)(2) (1) (L = 2-(2-(trifluoromethyl) phenyl)-1H-imidazo[4,5-f][1,10]phenanthroline), was solvothermally synthesized. It displays a new example of two-step SCO with T-c1 down arrow = 250 K, T-c1 up arrow = 260 K and T-c2 = 295 K.
