Analysis of Crack Phenomenon for Injection-MoldedScrew Using Moldflow Simulation

摘要

The screw for ice water filter machine wasinjection molded with acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene(ABS)/polycarbonate (PC) [ABS/PC] alloy resin and itscrack phenomenon after mechanical stress was analyzedby commercial Moldflow software. The cracked morphol-ogy and tensile properties of ABS/PC have been studiedby scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and universal testmachine (UTM). The injection pressure and the residualstress has been compared with two injection molding con-ditions as actual manufacturing and reduced injection flowrate. This analysis has found that residual stress is higher at actual manufacturing condition. SEM study reveals thatin the micrographs taken on the surface of cracked sampleABS rubber domains tend to extremely align in the direc-tion of mold flow. The combined data suggest that the ma-jority of the crack comes from residual stress in final partoriginated from higher injection pressure during injection-molding process.
