Spectroscopic properties of Ho~(3+): LiLa(MoO_4) _2 and Tm3+/Ho~(3+): LiLa(MoO_4) _2 single crystals relevant to the 2 μm laser of Ho~(3+) ions have been investigated. The polarized absorption spectra of the crystals were measured. The stimulated emission cross sections of the~5I _7 →~5I8 transition for Ho~(3+) ions were estimated. The fluorescence spectra around 2 μm and upconversion fluorescence spectra in the visible region under excitation at 795 nm were measured. The fluorescence decay curves of the~3H_4 and~3F _4 multiplets of Tm~(3+) ions and the~5I_7 multiplet of Ho~(3+) ions were recorded. The cross relaxation of ~3H_4 +~3H_6 →~3F _4 +~3F_4 between Tm~(3+) ions and the following energy transfer between the~3F_4 multiplet of Tm~(3+) ions and the~5I_7 multiplet of Ho ~(3+) ions in the Tm~(3+)/Ho~(3+): LiLa(MoO _4)_2 were analysed.
