摘要

A novel TE11 mode axial output structure for a compact relativistic magnetron (RM) is proposed. This magnetron, operating in the p-mode, can axially radiate microwaves with the TE11 mode through a cylindrical waveguide which is designed to match with the anode. This design, on the one hand, minimizes both the radial and axial sizes of the magnetron, so that the volume and weight of the magnetic coils and magnetron itself and the drifting distance of the leakage electrons from the interaction region can be reduced. On the other hand, it provides a relatively purer radiated mode in the output waveguide as a result of the limit to the dimension of the output waveguide for the operating frequency. In three-dimensional particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, the power conversion efficiency can reach 42.2%, corresponding to an output power of 443.0 MW and resonant frequency of 4.48 GHz, under an applied voltage of 360 kV and applied magnetic field of 0.6 T.
