The Chinese government has renewed a drive to boost coal production for use by utilities amid concerns about possible power shortages in the country this summer. The northern, eastern and southern regions may experience power shortages during "peak hours" this summer, as overall power demand has been "increasing at high speed since the start of this year," the national development and reform commission (NDRQ said this week.
