A full-scale military confrontation between the US and Iran looks unlikely, at least for now, despite Tehran's anger over the assassination of Gen. Qassem Soleimani, who led the foreign operations of Iran's Revolutionary Guard (IOD Jan.6'20). While Iran has vowed to take “severe revenge” for the killing of Soleimani by US forces in Baghdad, it will likely stick with the patient and calculated kind of approach it is known for (IOD Jan.7'20). But given Soleimani's status in Iran, some kind of retaliation seems inevitable.
