Crude exports from Iraqi Kurdistan averaged 434,000 barrels per day in 2019, with the semiautonomous Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) netting $4.515 billion in revenues, according to the latest independent audit by Deloitte. The report’s publication on Saturday and the light it shines on the Kurdish oil sector appear to be part of a push by the regional government to persuade Baghdad to resume the budget transfers it halted in mid-April. The loss of those funds is threatening the region with financial ruin after the recent crash in oil prices (IOD Apr.28’20).
