Vietnam began on Monday the trial of 22 oil executives from state-owned Petrovietnam, as the country continues its crackdown on corruption, with several defendants facing the death penalty if convicted. The defendants include former politburo official Dinh La Thang, who was expelled last year for alleged violations from 2009-11 during his time as secretary of the Communist Party committee and chairman of Petrovietnam (IOD Sep.15'17).
