Naftogaz Ukrainy said on Wednesday that it was willing to buy natural gas from Russia’s Gazprom this year, expressing confidence that the price would be attractive for Ukraine, and that talks between the two companies could begin in the near future. Ukraine has not imported gas from Russia since November 2015 - a matter of great pride for political and energy leaders in Kiev - but an international arbitration tribunal in December ruled that Naftogaz should import some 5 Bcm both this year and next as part of a settlement in their dispute of over supplies (IOD Dec.26’17).
