South African manganese ore producers will be forced to cut production, starting with volumes transported by road, due to high stocks of material being held at Chinese ports and the slow recovery of demand in other regions, according to Thembelani Gantsho, chief executive officer of South African miner Kudumane Manganese Resources. Speaking at Fastmarkets’ International Ferro-alloys conference, which is taking place online, Gantsho pointed to the large increase in manganese volumes being transported by trucks to work around the logistical constraints imposed on rail and port systems by measures to control the Covid-19 pandemic.
