The global scrap industry could be severely damaged if scrap importsinto China are drastically reduced or prohibited via a proposed ban,the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries (ISRI) said in a letteraddressed to the World Trade Organization (WTO).“ISRI fully supports the efforts of the Chinese Government toimprove environmental protection and standards within its domesticrecycling infrastructure. However, we disagree that a ban on theimport of specification-grade scrap materials will help with thoseefforts,” ISRI president Robin Wiener said in a letter addressed to theWTO and China’s Ministry of Environmental Protection (MEP).
