BACKGROUND: Enhancing Recovery After Surgery (ERAS (R)) programs have been widely adopted throughout the world, but not in spinal surgery. In this report, we review the implementation of a "fast track" surgery for lumbar fusion and its effect on acute care hospitalization costs.
