摘要

The most recent advances in the studies of the physiological and pathophysiological roles of non-neuronal acetylcholine (ACh) and their clinical implications were discussed at the Third International Symposium on Non-neuronal Acetylcholine held on August 24-26, 2011 at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands. Approximately one hundred scientists with unique expertise in the non-neuronal cho-linergic system from various countries participated in this meeting (Fig. 1). Their excellent contributions are published in the present issue of Life Sciences. Together with previous proceeding volumes (life Sciences 2003, Vol. 72, No. 18-19 and Life Sciences 2007, Vol. 80, No. 24-25), this issue of the journal provides a comprehensive summary of the state of the art development in the field of non-neuronal ACh.
