Sioux Falls-Poet-DSM Advanced Biofuels,a joint venture of Royal DSM and Poet,announced it will suspend production of cellulosic biofuels at its Project Liberty facility and shift to research and development(R&D) focused on improving operational efficiency(PCN,20 Feb 2017,p 4).The decision is a result of U.S.Environmental Protection Agency challenges with the implementation of the Renewable Fuel Standard(RFS),Poet-DSM noted.The joint venture will now focus on R&D with the goal of improving mechanical reliability,creating additional technological efficiencies and licensing technology in countries which support the use of low carbon fuels from crop residue and other biomass.
