Mumbai-Bharat Petroleum Corp.Ltd.(BPCL)has selected Sumitomo Chemical's propylene oxide(PO)production technology for a large-scale petrochemical project in Kochi,India(PCN,8 Oct 2018,p 1).BPCL has begun front-end engineering design and detailed engineering for the new PO plant,which will have a production capacity of 300,000 t/y.The plant is expected to be completed in 2022.The project,to be built adjacent to BPCL's refinery complex,will also include polyols production.It is part of BPCL's goal to enter into the petrochemicals market.Sumitomo's PO technology is based on a PO-only process in which,with cumene recycling,PO alone is manufactured without accompanying co-products.
