Houston-Total, Borealis and Nova Chemicals announced that affiliates of the three companies have entered into definitive agreements to form a joint venture in petrochemicals on the U.S. Gulf Coast (PCN, 3 Apr 2017, p 1). The venture will include a 1-million-t/y ethane steam cracker being built in Port Arthur, Texas; Total's existing 400,000-t/y polyethylene (PE) facility in Bayport, Texas, and a new 625,000-t/y Borstar PE unit to be built at Total's Bayport site, following a decision on the outcome of an acceptable engineering, procurement and construction contract.
