Muttenz-SABIC and Clariant have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to merge the two companies' specialty chemicals businesses into a new high performance materials specialty chemicals business, following the completion of SABIC's planned acquisition of a 24.99% interest in Clariant (PCN, 17 Sept 2018, p 3). SABIC is in the process of creating a stand-alone specialties business, which is anticipated to take until the end of 2019. If the transaction with Clariant proceeds, part of SABIC's business-comprising its Ultem and Noryl resins, and its families of LNP compounds and copolymers-would be merged with Clariant's additives and high-value mas-terbatch offerings, as part of the Clariant group.
