摘要

Ground Piper betle cv. Mysore leaves (collected from India) were administered to mice at doses of 0.1-2 g/kg for 15 days. High doses increased hepatic and renal lipid peroxidation activity while low doses decreased activity. Hepatic superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity was not altered by treatment, although renal SOD activity was increased in mice treated with 0.1 g P. betle/kg. Hepatic catalase activity was increased in mice treated with the lowest dose of P. betle. It was concluded that P. betle exhibits both oxidant and antioxidant properties.
