Why desert camels are least afflicted with osteo-dental fluorosis?

This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of osteo-dental fluorosis in dromedaries from three villages (Badopal, Paliwala and Thakruwala) of Hanuman and six villages (Bhompura, Kinkrawali, Lalgargh, Morzonda, Nathawali and Panswarsar) of Sriganganagar district, Rajasthan, India between 2011 and 2012. The fluoride level in the drinking water sources from these area were between 2.0-5.7 ppm. A total of 194 adult and 43 juvenile dromedaries were examined. Results revealed that 13.8% adult and 9.3% juvenile dromedaries were affected with mild and moderate forms of dental fluorosis, respectively, while 10.2% adults and 2.3% juveniles were affected with moderate form of skeletal fluorosis. It is concluded that dromedaries are less susceptible to dental and skeletal fluorosis.
