China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) is in the process of revising its Prevention and Control of Environmental Pollution Caused by Solid Wastes law, according to the Bureau of International Recycling (BIR) non-ferrous scrap metals periodic market review, published on Thursday. Last year China imported a total of 22.63 million mt of solid waste including ferrous and non-ferrous scrap, a fall of 46.5% year on year. The amendment may include the banning of solid waste imports, BIR reports.
