London—Glencore’s Katanga said Friday its 75% subsidiary Kamoto Copper Company will acquire land areas adjacent to its min-ing concessions in Democratic Republic of Congo from La Generale des Carrières et des Minesits (Gecamines) — its 25% joint venture partner in KCC — in a deal worth up to $250 million.The Toronto-listed company said the land included blocks over the preferred location for construction of a new long-term tailings facility, and other blocks that will enhance KCC’s ability to more efficiently operate its mines, facilities and other key infrastructure requirements.
