Washington—Discount spreads for most high grades of copper scrap sold in the US widened this week, with most larger mills out of the market and scrap supply still plentiful. The S&P Global Platts discount spread for high-grade No. 1 bare bright widened to March COMEX minus 14 cents/lb, delivered, from December COMEX minus 12 cents/lb, delivered last week. With only about 10 days of trading left before the December contract becomes the spot month, most sales are now being done off the forward March 2020 COMEX contract. A dealer/recycler in the eastern Midwest said bare bright spreads may have widened to March COMEX minus 14 cents/lb, delivered, this week from December COMEX minus 12 cents/lb, delivered.
