Activity in the Asian caustic soda market was limited in the week to July 14 amid sluggish export interest due to slim margins. Asian caustic soda prices were assessed unchanged week on week at $235/mt FOB Northeast Asia and $285/mt CFR Southeast Asia July 14, and flat over the same period in the domestic China market at Yuan 570/mt. Supply in China’s domestic market remains ample, while chlorine prices were heard to be weakening, market sources said. “The caustic soda price at the moment is reaching the breakeven line for us, so some production cut is expected,” a producer source in east China said.
