Houston—Petcoke prices in the US Gulf Coast are expected to rise, at least temporarily, on declining supply, while US West Coast petcoke is dropping due to closed ports in China, market sources said Wednesday. “There seems to be little spot availability in the USGC and maintenance in Saudi Arabia,” one source said. “Combine that with increasing demand and we are seeing prices rise.” He noted an offer for high sulfur FOB USGC petcoke at $36.50/mt, “which I thought was interesting. Tells me the market is definitely moving up, even if it’s only temporary until there is more coke on the market.” A second source also noted supply tightness in the gulf.
