Cardiac noncompaction (CNC) is thought to be extremely rare, with a prevalence in adults of less than 0.3% (2,7). It is an uncommon cardiomyopathy that also is referred to commonly as hypertrabeculation, left ventricular non-compaction (LVNC), isolated ventricular noncompaction (FVNC), and is believed to have a common cause.The patient typically can present with congestive heart failure, but other presentations including recurrent syncope, ventricular arrhythmias, heart block, or systemic embolism have been described (4,5). CNC has been viewed as a cause of sudden cardiac death (SCD), given its predilection for severe systolic heart failure and fatal arrhythmias (7,9).
