摘要

This issue of Current Opinion in Gastroenterology focused on the biliary tract encompasses several key advances in our understanding of biliary tract disease. These advances include a better understanding of primary biliary cirrhosis through murine models of this syndrome, an increasing appreciation of the genetics of primary sclerosing cholan-gitis (PSC), the unique features of PSG in children, the role of angiogenesis in biliary tract physiology, the mechanisms of carcinogenesis in PSG, surgical management and outcomes of ampullary carcinoma, important staging systems for intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, and advances in the cytologic diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma. All of these advances have or will greatly impact our ability to improve the health of patients with biliary tract disease. As the Section Editor for this issue of Current Opinion in Gastroenterology, I have read and edited all of the above-mentioned manuscripts. I enjoyed this opportunity and learned a great deal. Without question, this reading has helped me become a better physician.
