SiC/Fe2O3/Fe3O4/Fe embellished graphite layers (SiC/FexOy EGL) have attracted the interest of many scholars due to their excellent absorbing properties. Here, for the first time, a method for obtaining the SiC/FexOy EGL with silica sol, FeCl3, and graphite layers (GL) as raw materials by facile co-precipitation and then heat treatment at different temperatures is reported. For the SiC/FexOy EGL, the dielectric constant can be adjusted by controlling the heat treatment temperature. The prepared SiC/FexOy EGL architecture exhibits characteristics of broad bandwidth, excellent high frequency absorbing properties, and adjustable dielectric properties which attribute to the combination losses, such as the magnetic loss of FexOy, the dielectric loss of SiC and GL. The minimum reflection loss (RL) can reach -41.8 dB at 14 GHz in absorbent/paraffin composites. The bandwidth of the RL below -10 dB covers 6.56 GHz (11.28 -17.84 GHz) with a thickness of 2 mm. The microwave absorption mechanism of the SiC/FexOy EGL composites is studied and the microwave absorption of the composites is improved. (C) 2019 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
