Micro-arc oxidation (MAO) corrosion-resistant coating was prepared on AZ31Mg with MAO technique, and galvanic corrosion performance of the coated AZ31Mg coupled to 2024Al and 7075Al was studied. The results showed that the MAO coating can significantly protect AZ31Mg from galvanic corrosion and crevice corrosion. The lifetime of AZ31Mg with MAO coating coupled to 2024Al and 7075Al was 2184 h and 1800 h, respectively, when the surface corrosion morphology rating was 5. While it was only 264 h and 240 h for AZ31Mg. The MAO coating made the constraint of life-span of the coupled components changing from the anode corrosion of AZ31Mg to the corrosion of aluminum alloys and decreased the mass loss rate of the components greatly. This work had significant meaning to the applications of Mg alloys. (C) 2018 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
