Chinese producers keep investing in the expansion of steel capacities in Southeast Asia, con- sidering the region’s bright prospects along with strong governmental restrictions concerning the expansion of steel capacities in China. This was one of the major topics at 2019 SEAISI Conference & Exhibition “Sustainable Development of ASEAN Steel Value Chain” held in Bang- kok on June 17-19. The market expects drastic changes in the long term. However, most lo- cal steel producers believe that the plans of Chinese investors are too ambitious and further growth will depress the market, causing a surge in export.
