A two-year temporary ban on the use of certain neonicotinoid seed treatments in flowering crops such as oilseed rape comes in to force at the end of this year. But how will this affect rape growers this autumn? Crops asks Paul Rooke of the AIC. Threeneonicotinoid actives are covered by the ban: clothianidin, thiamethoxam and imidacloprid. These seed treatments primarily manage flea beetles and aphids. It is primarily flowering crops: oilseed rape, sunflowers and maize, but also spring sown cereals.It doesn't cover winter cereals (sown by 31 December each year), sugar beet, fodder beet or swedes.
