Plough adjustments always used to be made by turnbuckle or nut and bo then by hydraulic cylinder. Reversing Lemken's electronically-controlled plough at a headland involves no more effort than a gentle push on the Fendt Vario tractor's joystick hydraulics controller. The plough will gently swing in, rotate and swing back out again ready for work. All under the watchful eye of a microprocessor that ensures valves open and close when they should and rams operate smoothly. Moreover, couple up the tractor and plough combination after a temporary break -- or even some months after the two last worked together -- and the plough will automatically adopt the front furrow width, working width, line of draft and other settings that were used. "All the previously used settings are held in the memory of the microprocessor that is the 'brains' of the system," explains Johannes Terboven of Lemken. "So as long as tyre width or wheel track setting has not been altered, the plough will be automatically set upfor work."
