The European Commission wants to change GM approvals legislation to allow national governments to decide whether GM crops can be grown. Crops gathers opposing views from Julian Little and Mute Schimpf on the implications. Farmers move with the times.They have always adopted innovations as they come along. This has been essential to producing ever-increasing quantities of high-quality affordable food over the past 200 years. Today, the demands on farmers in the UK are greater still: To produce more food on less land, with a lower volume of inputs, while also encouraging biodiversity and competing with farmers elsewhere using tools UK farmers cannot.
