This issue of ACB News looks at the Sustainability and Transformation Plan (STP) pathology initiatives, and the fast-track path that NHS Improvement (NHSI) is helping them take for pathology rationalisation. When things are not 'happening', strong and determined leadership can occasionally and appropriately drive things forward. From the outside that might appear to be what is happening with NHS pathology and the current drive to consider networks at STP level. Last month ACB News reported the major failure of the high profile East of England network. This expensive experiment is the latest in a long line of such network failures, many of which failed at the planning stage.
