Seven-year-old vines of the grape cultivars Cardinal, Alphonse Lavallee and Sultanina were pruned on different dates between 16 Dec. 1991 and 7 Jan. 1992. Pruning on 30 Dec. gave the highest yield/vine for Cardinal and Sultanina, while pruning on 7Jan. was best for Alphonse Lavallee. For all cultivars, individual bunch weight was highest with pruning on 30 Dec. Berry weight, bunch length and vegetative growth showed variable responses to pruning date.
