In trials carried out in 1992 on 4- to 7-year-old trees of 4 S. chinensis cultivars, 1 or 2% hydrogen cyanamide (as Dormex) was applied in late Aug. or late Sep. Both treatments were combined with root aeration and irrigation. Preliminary results showed that spraying with 1% hydrogen cyanamide in late Sep. was the most effective for breaking flower bud dormancy.
