摘要

The utilization of sole carbon sources by a pure culture of Pythium ultimum was evaluated using the Biolog GN-panel. The spermosphere 6-day-old and the rhizosphere of 6-week-old hydroponically grown tomato cv. Gitana plants, which were either infected or uninfected by P. ultimum, were also analysed. Carbon utilization by a pure culture of P. ultimum was slow, reaching stationary phase after 152 h, and was highest for arbutin and asparagine. In the spermosphere and rhizosphere, utilization was highest for alpha-D-glucose, cis-aconitic acid, D-saccharic acid, D-trehalose, D-glucuronic acid and L-asparagine. Utilization values were significantly lower in uninfected than infected plants, suggesting that the analysis of sole carbon utilization can be used to evaluate the diversity and microbial composition of hydroponic systems.
