The commercial production of asparagus in the Philippines by Dole TropiFresh for export to Japan is discussed in terms of business structure, production planning, farm practices, business development, and responsibilities of individual growers, growers' associations and the company. Trials were begun in 1987 on the island of Mindanao. Commercial planting started in 1990 and has expanded each year, reaching 950 ha in 1993.
