A rapid method to detect banana weevil attacks on banana was developed and tested. This method was based on artificial weevil infestation in controlled conditions. Young banana plants of different ages were infested with 10 adults of banana weevil (five males and five mature females) during 7, 15 and 30 days. The attacks, characterized by egg laying, and larvae and weevil tunnels inside the rhizome of banana, were detected 7 days after infestation. This method allows a rapid screening of insecticides against the banana weevil borer.
