Different reaction patterns were observed in a field trial with 2 different sources of apple chlorotic leafspot trichovirus (ACLSV) in the German prune type Etscheid. The source PBM 1 which induces a distinct line pattern in the variety Ersinger caused severe pseudopox symptoms in the fruit of Etscheid including heavy early fruit fall. Additionally, a narrow line pattern appeared in a few basal leaves. The other source (GM 2/11) caused no fruit and leaf symptoms. No significant differences in fruitfall to healthy control trees were observed. GM 2/11 very seldom caused mild leaf symptoms in Ersinger. Both ACLSV sources were free of ilarviruses and plum pox potyvirus. The results demonstrated distinct differences between the 2 ACLSV sources in theability to cause plum pseudopox.
