In March 2011, the Danish Association of Trainees in Obstetrics and Gynecology (FYGO) launched a campaign called 'Pass on the Knife'. The purpose of the campaign was to improve focus on surgical training for young residents (or trainees). FYGO also suggested approaches to inspire young and experienced colleagues to create a constructive discussion about surgical training and the educational environment in obstetrics and gynecology in Denmark. Recent years have seen a decrease in the biological age and the number of years since finishing medical school of those embarking on specialization in obstetrics and gynecology. The age of the residents when starting their specialization decreased by an average of seven years during 2005-2010, and the number of years working as a doctor before starting specialization decreased concurrently from nine to six years.
