The Aleris acquisition will see Novelis increase both its global footprint and market reach,thus strengthening its position in a number of key markets. Novelis is already a majorsupplier of automotive body sheet (ABS) in North America, Europe and in China, and theadditions of the Aleris’ Duffel and Lewisport plants will further strengthen its global positionin this key growth market. Novelis currently operates ABS finishing mills in Kingston (Ontario)and Oswego (New York) with a combined capacity of around 400,000t. Recently, thecompany announced plans to commence operations in 2020 at a third finishing mill in Guthrie(Kentucky), which recently held a ground-breaking ceremony. Aleris at its Lewisport mill hasrecently invested at the plant to enter the ABS market. The $400M investment included aCASH line for auto body sheet finishing.
